A steel beam fell during overnight construction onto the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach early Wednesday, June 18th. A Caltrans employee was seriously injured in the workplace accident. The worker had been standing on the beam when it fell, around 2:45 a.m.
The incident occurred while Caltrans teams were installing 130-foot steel beams at the site where the 405 and 605 meet. Authorities responded immediately to the scene of the construction site accident and transported the injured worker to a local hospital.
The 405 was shut down in both directions until about 7:00 a.m., causing massive rush hour traffic delays. Authorities are investigating what may have caused the incident.
