A plane accident in Alpine County left two people fatal on Thursday.

Initially, Raphael Jones Jr., a 74-year-old from San Jose, was piloting the small aircraft, accompanied by 80-year-old Jeannette Shriver Singer from Lodi as the passenger. 

Subsequently, in the early hours around 1 a.m., the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to an overdue plane.

Responding swiftly, deputies set out to the last known location of the aircraft, near Willow Creek in Luther Pass. This move was guided by the signals from the plane’s GPS transponder. 

Upon arrival, they found Raphael Jones Jr. and Jeannette Shriver Singer amidst the wreckage. Regrettably, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Currently, the sheriff’s office will oversee the coroner’s investigation. Moreover, the Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, and the United States Forest Service are all set to investigate this plane accident in Alpine County.

The Federal Aviation Administration disclosed that the aircraft was a Luscombe 8A single-engine plane that departed from Lodi Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
