According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the driver of a dark sedan, heading east on the 2500 block of Columbus Street, hit the pedestrian while he was crossing north in an unmarked crosswalk.

Unfortunately, the responding officers found the pedestrian dead in the road’s center.

Meanwhile, the driver responsible for the collision left the scene before authorities arrived. As of now, the authorities have not confirmed if speed or impairment played a role.
