According to Orange County Fire Authority firefighters, the violent crash happened at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue.
Allegedly, a white Tesla SUV, believed to be driven by a woman in her 70s, was speeding westward on Orangethorpe Avenue. Then, the Tesla entered an eastbound lane at high speeds estimated between 80 to 85 mph, colliding with a car pulling out of a driveway.
Consequently, the impact sent the Tesla flying through the intersection at Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue, where it hit four other cars waiting at a red light, causing it to flip over.
Out of the six vehicles entangled in the mayhem, firefighters had to extricate two drivers from their cars. Additionally, responders took three patients, including the Tesla SUV driver, to a hospital.
As of yet, the Tesla SUV’s driver is yet to be charged. Currently, the reason behind her veering into opposite traffic remains a mystery and is under investigation.
