Del Mar, CA (June 19, 2024) – A DUI accident in Del Mar in the 2000 block of Coast Blvd. led to the death of a 62-year-old male passenger and the arrest of a driver. According to FOX5, the collision occurred shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

A DUI accident in Del Mar left a driver arrested and a passenger killed in the 2000 block of Coast Blvd., said Sgt. Jeremy Collis of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 62-year-old man in the passenger seat of a crashed 2019 Maserati Gran Turismo. The luxury car had hit a tree and a parked Dodge Ram, which was empty at the time.

Eventually, emergency services rushed the victim to the hospital. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Further, Collis explained that the investigation revealed the Maserati had been northbound on Coast Boulevard. It veered off the road, hitting a parked car before crashing into a tree.

Elizabeth Brooks-Fratus, 52, was the Maserati’s driver. Initially, she fled the scene but was subsequently arrested. After sustaining injuries in the crash, she received hospital treatment.

Authorities plan to charge Brooks-Fratus and book her at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility. Accordingly, her charges include suspicion of felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI-related offenses following this DUI accident in Del Mar.
