The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall for all models of the Nap Nanny, an infant recliner. At least five children were killed after falling out of the product. The Nap Nanny was originally recalled in 2010 when one child was killed and 22 children were reported as hanging out of or falling out of the product. Since the original recall, at least four more deaths were reported, including one death linked to the newest model of the product.
The Nap Nanny recall is being voluntarily supported by four major retailers, as the maker of the Nap Nanny has since gone out of business. Buy Buy Baby, Diapers.com, Amazon.com and Toys/Babies R Us are offering refunds for the Nap Nanny. About 5,000 Nap Nanny first generation products were sold and 50,000 Nap Nanny second generation versions were sold between 2009 and early 2012, and around 100,000 Nap Nanny Chill models were sold since the beginning of 2011.
