14 people were injured, three critically, when a big rig tanker crossed the center divider on State Route 60 in South El Monte on the morning of Thursday, August 14th. At least eight vehicles were involved in the resulting crash, closing the 60 in both directions for hours. At least two of those vehicles were engulfed in flames.
Authorities are investigating the crash. According to authorities, a tanker truck carrying milk was traveling east when it crossed over the center divider, causing the resulting crash. The tanker overturned, spilling fuel and milk onto all lanes of the freeway, closing all lanes for cleanup. The 60 East is being diverted onto Rosemead Boulevard and the 60 West is being diverted onto the 605.
