How to Request a Police Report in Bakersfield

A police accident report provides essential details about what happened during a car collision and what caused it. Obtaining a police report when filing a personal injury claim can be advantageous, especially if the document shows the other driver’s negligence.

To obtain an accident report in Bakersfield, follow these steps:

  • Submit a written request to the Records & Identification Division of the Bakersfield law enforcement agency or California Highway Patrol that handled the accident.
  • Include the necessary information in your request, such as the following:
    • date, time, and location of the accident,
    • the names of the parties involved, and
    • the accident report number, if available.
  • Provide a waiver authorizing the release of information to your lawyer if you have legal representation.

Remember that time is crucial when pursuing compensation, so acting promptly to obtain the accident report is essential. If you cannot get the report personally due to injuries sustained in the accident, a personal injury lawyer can request a copy on your behalf to prevent any delays in your personal injury case.
